Tools -

Rake, steel cap boots, hedge shears, safety googles and ear protection, motorised hedge trimmer, tarps/wool sacks, chaps.

Costs -

Hedge trimmer – (per day) $60.00

Scaffolding – $120.00 a day

Removal of rubbish to tip – $20 per load/trailer

Daily labour rate – $20 per hour

Diary:

• observe the possible dangers in the hedge such as wires, waratahs, and other obstacles. remove them as best possible or if not then make them highly visible to you and others.
• discuss the health and safety risks of using the hedge trimmer. know where the first aid kit and other needed health and safety features e.g. fire extinguisher.
• set up scaffolding in the correct and safe manner.
• lay out the tarps below the area where the materials will be dropped.
• place the scaffolding over the tarp and start pruning.
• take care to watch where you move and cut. watch out for other people and the public if working in a public area.
• start pruning the hedge into the desired shape. carefully and not too fast.
• ensure that it is in the general shape to be achieved.
• clean up area as you go at intervals so that your are not doing the same movements for long periods of time. by cleaning up at breaks in between you can stretch muscles to reduce RSI.
• at the end, clean up, and tidy the surrounding area. load onto trailer and take to tip or refuse station.
• clean up tools.
